Solicitation Policy

Purpose and Scope

The intent of this policy is to allow customers to use library services, unfettered by unauthorized, external interference.

Solicitation includes such activities as selling goods or services; seeking contributions or pledges; collecting ideas or opinions; distributing political information; proselytizing on religious beliefs.

Policy

The selling of goods by the public to employees on library premises is not allowed.

Exception

Library or Town sponsored solicitation is allowed.

Procedure

  1. If you witness a violation of this policy, explain the policy to the person.
  2. If the person continues to solicit, notify the staff-in-charge.
  3. In-charge staff should warn the person to cease or police would be called.
  4. If the person does not stop, the in-charge staff will call the police.
  5. In-charge staff will immediately notify the CEO/Director of Customer Services that this violation has occurred and that the police were called to handle the situation.
  6. In-charge staff will file an Incident Report with the Director of Customer Services (see Section 4.13 of the Public Service Manual).
  7. Director of Customer Services will determine if any additional action needs to be taken such as issuance of Letter of Trespass.
