Security Clearance Check Policy
Purpose and Scope
The purpose of the security clearance check is to help create and maintain a safe environment for vulnerable people using library services, including children, youth, and patrons with disabilities.
This policy applies to all employees and volunteers of the Oakville Public Library.
Policy
For applicants to positions that are assessed at moderate to high risk, the Library requires a current security clearance check (dated within the last year) as a condition of employment with the Oakville Public Library.
The Library will complete a risk assessment for each paid and volunteer position. The assessment will evaluate the potential risks, the likelihood that the potential risk will occur, and the consequences of the risk.
The Library requires a current security clearance check, which includes a vulnerable sector screening (dated within the past year) for an applicant who applies for a volunteer or paid position, where the position is assessed at moderate to high risk of potentially causing loss or injury to a vulnerable person.
The presence of any criminal conviction in a security criminal check indicating a behaviour or pattern of behaviour that may put at risk the safety and well being of library users would disqualify a candidate from working for the Oakville Public Library.
